El Paso is Sun City
El Paso’s is the city in Texas nicknamed, ‘Sun City’ for its’ over 360 days of sweet sunshine per year and has many other reasons too to be chosen as a tourist hot spot. This city is a unique travel destination to experience.
Visiting El Paso is the ultimate tex-mex experience because the city has blended cultures from both Texas and Mexico. The border town offers fun day trips into Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, the sister city which can be visited by short ride walk across a pedestrian bridge.
Here’s where you’ll find the famous army base, Fort Bliss - which houses over 12,500 military employees and is this city’s single largest industry. Just outside the city is an alternate landing place for the space shuttle.
In El Paso there are enough things to do to keep you and your family busy for your whole stay. And it’s been ranked twice as the second safest city in the U.S. so is a fantastic place for visitors to feel secure in exploring!
About five hundred thousand people live in the city itself, but combined with Ciudad Juarez, the combination for the metro area is over 1.8 million people.
On the famous Scenic Drive is their Star. At 459 feet high with over 450 light bulbs, it’s quite a sight! Bring your camera! Between the mountains and the white sand there are many brilliant sights to take pictures of. The Camino Real, for instance has a Tiffany Stained glass dome that is virtually breathtaking. Another attraction to explore is the Wyler Aerial Tramway is an exciting four and a half minute ride up to the Ranger Peak Summit where you can see both Mexico and the U.S. and three states all from the over 5600 foot elevation.
For hiker enthusiasts, the Mission Trail is a great hike through yesterday’s churches (some of which still offer services). Expect this hike to take up to half a day.
The downtown area is filled with unique shopping and is considered the Boot Capital of the World! There are twelve different boot retailers just in the downtown shopping district alone. If you’re interested in the western wear such as boots, hats or chaps or if in the market for Mexican ponchos and sombreros this is the place to find them!
